Submissions
How do the monthly competitions work?
Each month is a separate competition with its own submission deadline, judging period, finalists, and winners. Rather than waiting for a single annual event, filmmakers have the opportunity to submit new work and earn recognition throughout the year.
Can I submit more than one project?
Yes. There is no limit to the number of eligible projects you may submit. Each project is evaluated independently and requires its own submission through FilmFreeway.
Can I resubmit a project?
Yes. Projects may be resubmitted in future monthly competitions, provided they remain eligible under the current rules and are submitted in a different award category. A project may only be entered once in each award category.
Can I submit AI-generated work?
Projects using generative AI must follow the current NJFA AI category and eligibility requirements.
Judging
How are submissions judged?
Projects are reviewed by the screening committee on creative and technical merit.
Does every project receive an award?
No. Awards are earned, and not every category must have a winner.
Finalists & Results
How are finalists announced?
Film and screenplay finalists are announced before the monthly awards ceremony. Acting and technical nominations are announced separately on NJFA social media.
How are winners announced?
Winners are announced during the monthly YouTube Awards Ceremony and published on the NJFA website, FilmFreeway, and social media.
Winner Benefits
How do I receive my laurels?
Official laurels are provided after the monthly awards announcements. Please allow one to two days after the awards ceremony for them to be shared with winners.
Will I receive a certificate?
Eligible winners receive a personalized digital certificate following the competition. Please allow a few days after the awards ceremony for us to send these out.
Can I receive an official NJFA trophy?
Information about official NJFA winner recognition, including trophy details, is shared directly with winners following the monthly awards ceremony.
